We are RSPB members…so there are bird books and magazines to read. You can bird spot at breakfast time as feeders hanging in nearby trees attract lots of different birds and we have binoculars for guests to borrow www.rspb.org.uk.
Using birdtable | Robin, sparrow, dunnock, nut hatch (first time seen 2008), blue tit, coal tit, great tit, long tailed tit, great spotted woodpecker, magpie (but not much since put rails round feeder), greenfinches, chaffinches. Pigeons - nesting in a farm building - have moved onto the farm this year. |

Blackbird, starling, fieldfare, pied and grey wagtails Swallow (This year, the first swallows arrived on April 5 - four days later than in 2008, which was a record). Housemartin Kestrel Sparrowhawk Owl Jay Buzzard Crow, magpie, jackdaw Bats - in summer only The barn was a maternity unit this spring with several pairs of swallows nesting, plus collar doves and a pair of jackdaws. |
On pond | A pair of moorhens (taken up residence late 2008) has produced nine chicks which are now running - and swimming - round the pond Wild ducks - maybe returning ones - and drakes Cormorant (autumn 2008) Heron A pair of gooseanders - which, like the heron and cormorant, are after our four remaining fat trout. |
